What is Somatic?
"Somatic" simply means connecting to the whole, embodied self. In somatic coaching we'll be bringing our attention to what you are sensing in your body in the moment, and not just the stories in your head. We hold emotion, memories, and trauma in our muscles and nervous systems. And through our bodies we sense energy and attune to the world. So much of our responses are unconscious, and amazing things can happen when we begin to bring our attention to them— to the experience underneath the words.
What is Somatic Experiencing?
Somatic Experiencing is a therapeutic practice, inspired by the body’s wisdom, formalized by Peter Levine, to support the release of trauma in the body. It is rooted in a deep trust that, if we are held with compassion and attention, our bodies have the capacity to release trauma and let life flow through us freely again.
You might notice pain, fear, anxiety or trauma patterns that keep you stuck and bound. SE is an opportunity to slow down, with compassionate support, and attend to the whole range of your embodied experience. When we slow down and bring our attention to our body’s responses, painful blockages and stuck patterns can begin to unlock.
Every body is different, and everyone’s experience is different. Somatic experiencing is a practice of attuning to what your body is saying, and remember that you are not holding it alone.
